Record live at the Hilton Hotel Showroom, Las Vegas, Nevada - Monday September 3, 1973 (Midnight Show)

Fair-sounding, choppy audience recording with screaming women near the tape recorder.  Released by Claudia Records (CL 090373)

Original silver disc CD ripped to hard drive using Exact Audio Copy in Secure Mode properly configured to my system w/ correct drive read offset.  Encoded to FLAC (Level 6) using Trader's Little Helper

This performance is the closing show of the summer engagement at the Hilton Hotel Showroom.  Elvis' behavior is certainly bizarre.
He enters the stage carried on the back of Lamar Fike, with a plush monkey toy wrapped around his neck.  During the show, Elvis
mentions how much he enjoys entertaining people and as long as he's able to continue performing, he'll "be a happy, old sonofabitch."

Later, Elvis takes a swipe at the Hilton Hotel management for firing an employee named Mario, who Elvis had grown fond of.  He tells "somebody to wake up Conrad [Hilton] and tell him about Mario's job."  Elvis then dedicates "Tiger Man" to "the hierachy of staff" at the Hilton. Towards the end of the show, Elvis - in his finest William Shatner imitation - dramatically recites the words to "Softly As I Leave You."

After the show, the Colonel confronts Elvis in his suite over the criticism of Conrad Hilton.  A huge argument ensues, in the presence
of everyone.  Elvis blows-up, bringing up grievances that have been simmering for years, most of all the Colonel's refusal to allow Elvis to tour Europe and Japan.  During the shouting match, Elvis promptly fires Colonel.  In response, the Colonel draws up an invoice of money allegedly owed him.  Over the following two weeks, the two dispatch staff members back & forth to deliver nasty messages.  Elvis is left fearing a career without his only manager.  Vernon is worried about the massive debt owed to the Colonel.  Finally, Elvis has Sonny West get the Colonel on the phone.  The two have a private conversation, and reconcile.
