It’s interesting that The Spin Alternative Record Guide saw Roxy Music’s Avalon (1982) as “one of the all-time great makeout infernos, a synthesized version of Al Green’s Call Me, Van Morrison’s Moondance, and João Gilberto’s Amoroso.” For some, Avalon also saw the rise of Bryan Ferry (now, doesn’t he sound like David Bryne?) as a crooner, as opposed to an art-rock Roxy Music. Still, Andy Mackay’s saxophone remains haunting; and the album remains a favourite for many.
This is a real beauty! Check out this awesome stereo soundboard recording, which includes all the studio chat in between songs (you need to listen closely to hear it though!) and occasional false starts on songs too! It was only ‘Eight Miles High’ that never made it to the final setlist on this tour. ‘More Than This’ and ‘The Space Between’ was played only a handful of dates too.
Original Track one has been left out, due to the fact that the ‘intro’ track was an official release, which had just basic instrument tuning and sound-checking over it.
