In 1972, The Who did an orchestral version of Tommy with the London Symphony Orchestra and guest artists. Two shows in one day were recorded! One was officially released - its not that hard to find and you get to hear Rod Stewart sing Pinball Wizard, Richie Havens sings Eyesight to the Blind and even Steve Winwood sings.
This version features other guest artists and is a kick-ass addition to your Who collection. Everyone's heard the CD Tommy. Most of us have seen the movie and seen and/or heard the 90's musical version of Tommy but few of us have heard Orchestral Tommy!
One of the very few early Tommy stage recordings not done entirely by The Who. The sound quality here is excellent and this is really a very good performance. This is very similar to the 1972 vinyl bootleg Tommy Live At The Rainbow (LP) (TAKRL 2956) featuring David Essex, Marsha Hunt, Elkie Brooks, Roy Wood (of Wizzard), Roger Chapman, Graham Bell, Bill Oddie, Merry Clayton, John Pertwee and Vivian Stanshall.
The fade-outs at the end of certain songs strongly indicated that this may indeed a copy of the afore-mentioned vinyl boot Tommy Live At The Rainbow as they coincide with the end of each side of the vinyl version.

For those who are unfamiliar with the above mentioned recording, compare this with the legitimate 1972 Tommy box set featuring Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend & John Entwistle performed by the London Symphony Orchestra.
Lou Reizners stage production of Tommy featuring the London Symphony Orchestra. There is very a strong suspicion that the Roger Daltrey CD listed above is a copy of this show as the songs on the CD fade out at the same place as on the LP. This version featured David Essex, Marsha Hunt, Elkie Brooks, Roger Chapman, Graham Bell, Bill Oddie, Merry Clayton, Vivian Stanshall, Roy Wood and John Pertwee. There was another stage version of Tommy, also performed at the Rainbow Theater on December 9, 1972 which was later broadcast on British radio on December 26, 1972 featuring Rod Stewart, Keith Moon, Roger Daltrey, Pete Towns hend, John Entwistle, Ringo Starr, Peter Sellers, Steve Winwood and Maggie Bell, among others.
