BBC Recordings 1967-1968

Complete BBC 2 Broadcast 1968 - BBC Television Theatre (aka Paris Theatre), London, Summer 1968

actual recording date unknown -- probably early summer or late spring
venue speculative but most probable
tracks 1-6 broadcast 31 Aug 1968; tracks 7-15 broadcast 7 Sept 1968

This comes from a lower generation tape source and sound qaulity  is far, FAR superior to the widely-circulated "At the Beeb" bootleg (Yellow Cat, YC 018), which runs slow, is comparatively "muddy", and omits the final song. This also presents the second show complete ("One of Us Cannot Be Wrong" was left off the bootleg CD).

Lineage not known -- the presence of the annoucer's voice suggests it was taped from the broadcast rather than from a BBC master tape, but the clarity suggests the recording must have been made via a line connection from the junction box (as with the improved version of the Dylan 1965 BBC concert) rather than a "mike in front of the telly" setup (no "audio out" sockets on TV sets in those days).

As a bonus, here are two more BBC appearances from the same year:

BBC2 TV "Once More With Felix", London, 27 Jan 1968
========================================
14. Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye    3:03
-- a duet with the popular English folksinger Julie Felix

BBC Radio 1 "Top Gear" John Peel Sessions, 11 Aug 1968
===========================================
15. Bird on the Wire    3:31
16. So Long, Marianne    5:47
17. You Know Who I Am    3:04
-- note the differences in instrumentation, interpretation & lyrics (So Long, Marianne has lost its extra verse) between this and the TV concert, supposedly recorded the same month.  Since  lead times for TV are often much longer than for radio (Neil Young's 1971 In Concert, for example, is known to have been recorded 2 months before it was broadcast), I would guess that if this date for the radio show is correct, then the TV concert probably dates from late spring or early summer.
